Father’s Day is only a couple weeks out. Businesses – Mark your calendars! Great for businesses large and small, Father’s Day is a holiday you won’t want to miss out on.

But don’t take my word for it. Last year, the National Retail Federation (NRF) projected Father’s Day spending to reach $15.5 billion, with shoppers spending an average of $134.75 per person. That’s a lot of money on the line!

Here’s a few things to keep in mind to make sure your business is prepared for Father’s Day.

Every business can get in on Father’s Day

Seriously – Dads everywhere appreciate a wide variety of gifts. Some dads like clothing, some want a new TV, and others will be happy with a new set of power tools. Even if your business is service-based, there’s a ton of dads that are looking for experience-based gifts rather than products.

And of course, when all else fails, gift cards make up a huge component of sales as well; the NRF reports that 42.6% of dads want to receive gift cards or certificates.

Packages, deals, and sales

Your first order of business is to determine which products/services your business offers have the greatest appeal with dads. Then, you’ll need to promote them. Have a big Father’s Day sale and advertise each offering prominently.

One idea is to create special, limited-time Father’s Day gift packages, bundling together a group of products for one price. Wrap the packages all together in a way that’s easily giftable and you’ll push sales as soon as customers feast their eyes on them.

Another thing you can do is move all of your big products to a special section of your store, making it easier for the customer to find what they’re looking for, while also explicitly highlighting which items you’re trying to sell.

Consider who you’re selling to

While you’re first instinct when it comes to marketing for Father’s Day may be to direct your marketing efforts with dads specifically in mind, remember who’s making the purchases. Sons, daughters, and wives are the ones who will be out buying the gifts in the weeks leading up to Father’s Day.

More often than not, the gift being given tends to say something about the relationship. Try asking yourself what a son or daughter might buy for their dad versus what a wife might buy for their husband. For example, try pushing a few products that are more affordable so that kids and teenagers can get gifts.
